Ep 30 – 2018 Review

12-30-18Not a lot to discuss this week as Dhani spent time watching TV series instead of movies… but here we go!

First, Dhani watched Bad Times At The El Royale.  She had high expectations for this movie, and the first half met them, but the second half was a let down.

Next, Dhani talks about season 2 of Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu.  She is surprised how much she enjoys this show, yet after John points out she likes all Marvel entities, it seems to make sense.  Next, Dhani talks about the new adaptation of Vanity Fair on Amazon Prime.  She had different realizations about Rebecca Sharpe while watching this iteration.

Finally, we move on to the 2018 Corner, where both John and Dhani discuss the movies from 2018 that they loved, liked, hated, and still want to see.

A shorter episode this week, but hopefully you are reminded of the good year we had in movies and TV.  Happy New Year and see you all again next year!

Ep 29 – Roxy’s Corner

12-23-18After taking a week off, we are back and have lots to catch up on.

This week we talk very quickly through the things that Dhani watched this week, so pay attention as we cover lots of things.

The most exciting start is that we both saw Mary Poppins Returns.  And as much as we were anticipating this movie for so long… it lived up to our expectations!

Next, Dhani flies through the other movies she has watched, including Instant Family, Night School, Ready Player One, and Hunter Killer.  Next, John has caught up on seeing a couple movies that Dhani has covered previously, so we get his input on A Simple Favor and Blockers.

Wrapping up the movie portion, Dhani discusses her disappoint in Netflix’s Bird Box.

Next, Dhani and John take a moment to recognize Penny Marshall and her tremendous contributions to TV and film.

Moving on to TV, Dhani quickly talks about the Arrowverse’s crossover event this year called Elseworlds.  Next is a docuseries on Netflix called The Innocent Man.  And finally, the joy that she gets from watching Fuller House.

Finally, instead of an Actors’ Corner, we are changing it this week to the Christmas Corner as we discuss the holiday movies that we love, like, hate, secretly love, and haven’t seen.

Ep 28 – Hello Folks

12-9-18Lots to talk about this week, so we jump right into it.

First, Dhani talks about the new Halloween movie and her overall disappointment with most horror movies.  This one included.

Next, she talks about Venom.  She felt it waivers from the usual Marvel formula a bit, but then catches on by the end.

Moving on to Smallfoot, Dhani surprisingly enjoyed this one more than she thought.  Lately animated movies haven’t been successful in getting her to stick with the movie, but this one kept her interested!

Finally, we wrap up the movie section with the new Netflix movie, Dumplin’.  This was a typical message movie telling girls to love themselves no matter what, but it was entertaining and the characters were lovable and we care about them from the start.

Moving on to TV, John and Dhani superfan out on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  The second season just came out and they binged it and fell in love all over again.  Sorry for going on about this show, but we love it so much.

Next, we talk about another show that we both love… The Good Place.  We are in the middle of the third season and just want to reiterate that everyone should be watching this show.

Lastly, Dhani talks about the HBO show that just ended called Camping.  She really enjoyed the show with all of the interesting characters and the journeys they took over three days.

Finally, in the Actors’ Corner we decide to discuss the work of Jennifer Aniston.  We list the movies that we love, like, hate, haven’t seen and want to see.

Ep 27 – I’m A Purist Grinch

12-2-18This week was filled with lots of movie-watching!

First, Dhani talks about The Grinch and how she was disappointed with the changes they made to the core story.  Probably entertaining for kids, but not for those that love the original.

Next, Dhani talks about The House With A Clock In Its Walls.  She was pleasantly surprised by this movie and how entertaining and intriguing the story was!  She thinks this is due to Eli Roth’s direction, but also the performances were believable in an unbelievable world!  Enjoyable film for all to see!

Next, Dhani watched The Happytime Murders.  Yes, this has puppets… no, it’s not for kids.  But, Dhani found this movie really, really funny and thought the story was much better than she thought it would be!

Next, John and Dhani finally saw a movie that came out last year, Downsizing.  Both of them discuss the slight disappoint in this movie and the storyline going to a really deep place that they weren’t expecting.

Moving on to TV, Dhani felt it necessary to talk about The Walking Dead’s mid-season finale and how amazing the show has become even without Rick Grimes.  Then, John and Dhani gush about the special from this week, A Legendary Christmas with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.  This was the best special Dhani has seen since she was a kid and it was a throwback to the old variety specials of yore.

Finally, in the Actors’ Corner, we discuss the films of Matt Damon.  John and Dhani talk about the movies that we love, like, hate, secretly love, and are embarrassed we haven’t seen.  It’s very difficult to choose these, so listen as we struggle to narrow down our choices.
